Bug Bites and P.I.
"Sassy's Song"
Through bug bites and P.I.*,
we've fought our way here
to this campfire that's wavering
throught our heartaches and tears.
We've hiked through the woodlands
together at dawn
and at this time tomorrow
separate ways we'll be gone.

The serenity of vespers
the dining hall fun.
The CITs** at the singing tree
in the rays of the sun.
Watching the flag rise
in the wet morning dew.
All this reminds us of the times
shared with you.

Through bug juice and cookies
we've all grown so close.
Camp's brought us together
with the friends we love most.
So join hands in singing
at the end of this day,
in hopes that next summer
we'll be back this way.

Like a forever picture,
the lights on the lake
are etched in our memories
with the friends that we make.
Our camping is over
with the comming of dawn,
and all that we've learned here
we will share and pass on.
(Repeat first verse)

*(P.I. = poison ivy)
**(CITs = Counselors In Training)

This song was written in 1978 by Kathy Thomas DeMint, "Sassy", a camp counselor

Canadian Taps Come all, say good-night
While the shadows
still cling to the edge of night.
With each burning dying ember
there are friendships to remember
As we say...
One last good-night,
good-night,
good-night

Celebrate Together If I touch one someone with my song
Somewhere in this whole world round
And that someone somewhere starts to sing along
That would be the sweetest sound
And if I make a little magic with my words
In something that I write or say
Then I know my message is bound to be heard
And I'll give something to the world in my own way

Just a spark of inspiration
Lights a fire deep inside
I'll use my imagination
To create my work with pride

And celebrate the girl inside of me
Celebrate the woman I will be
I will sing out my own melody
When we celebrate, celebrate together

There's a world of wonders to explore
And I hear it calling out to me
Now I'm getting ready everyday to open the door
Make my way and see what I can see

I'll fly the sky and sail the ocean
Climb the mountain to the top
Now my life is set in motion
Here I go no I won't stop

I'll celebrate the girl inside of me
Celebrate the woman I will be
I will sing out my own melody
When we celebrate, celebrate together

Standing in a circle with my sisters
Arm in arm with friends
Girl Scouts together, united
I pledge once again

To celebrate the girl inside of me
Celebrate the woman I will be
I will sing out my own melody
When we celebrate, celebrate together
When we celebrate, celebrate together

Daises in the Sun (Chorus)
May all of your dreams
bloom like daisies in the sun.
May you always have stars in your eyes.
May you not stop running,
not until your race is won.
May you always have blue skies.

A dream is something all your own
To keep within your heart,
to build on when you're glad
or when your world's been torn apart.
A dream is something all your own
that no one else can steal.
A dream is is for you to make real.
(Chorus)

You can share your laughter
with any stranger that you meet.
You can share your money
with any beggar on the street.
But you can only share your dreams
when love sets you free.
Why don't you share yours with me?
(Chorus)

Edelweiss Edelweiss, edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white
Clean and bright
You look happy to meet me.

Blossoms of snow
May you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
bless my homeland forever!

Epo Epo a tai tai a-oh
Epo a tai tai a-oh
Epo a tai tai
Epo a tookie tookie
Epo a tookie tookie a-oh

This is a beautiful song sung in a two part round

Friends Friends, I will remember you
Think of you, pray for you
And when another day is through
I'll still be friends with you.

Friends, we've had some joyful times
Friends we will be and stay
And when you think of me
I'll still be thinking of you.

Friends, I will remember you
Think of you, pray for you
And when another day is through
I'll still be friends with you.

And when another day is through
I'll still be friends with you!

Gift of Friends God gave me a gift of friends.
Hey there friend, please try and understand.
It's so hard to say good-bye,
so let's leave it up to Him.
God gives a gift but He never takes away - a friend.

Hey there friend, wait for me.
Stay there friend, let's live eternally.
And we won't say good-bye,
for He came to set us free.
Hey there friend, come and walk along - with me.

God gave me a gift of friends.
Hey there gift, please try and understand.
It's so hard to say good-bye,
so let's leave it up to Him.
God gives a gift but He never takes away - a friend.

Green Trees and Taps Green trees around us,
Blue skies above,
Friends all around us,
in a world filled with love.

Taps sounding softly,
hearts beating true,
As we all say,
good night to you.

Day is done
Gone the sun
From the lakes
From the hills
From the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh

Human Touch

It's the human touch in this world that counts,
the touch of your hand in mine.
For it means far more to the fainting heart
than shelter, bread, or wine.

For shelter is gone when the night is o'er
and bread lasts only a day.
But the touch of your hand and the sound of your voice
lives on in my soul always.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again someday,
may God hold you in the (clap) palm of his hand.
May the memories that we have shared
linger on and on...

I Don’t Wanna Go Home

I don't wanna go home. Boom-Boom
I'm havin' such a wonderful time.
They say there's no place else like home,
but camp just suits me fine.
So pitch me a tent outdoors. Boom-Boom
And call my folks back home.
You'll always hear me singin' my song:

I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go home!

We really mean it...
I don't wanna go home!

So let's repeat it...
I don't wanna go home!
We really mean it!

Words to this song were written by Sloopy (Susan King Powers) - a Mintahama camp counselor

I Know a Place I know a place where no one ever goes.
There's peace and quiet, beauty and repose.
It's hidden in a valley beside a mountain stream.
And lying there beside the stream I find that I can dream
only of things of beauty to the eye,
snow peaked mountains towering to the sky.
Now I know that God has made this world for me.

One can imagine himself as in a dream,
climbing a mountain or down a small ravine.
The magic of this peace and quiet always shall stay,
to make this place a haven each and every day.
Oh how I wish I never had to leave,
and all my life such beauty to receive.
Now I know that God has made this world for me.
(Verse one is repeated)

*(This is a third verse that is not included in the recording)
Sitting alone beside that mountain stream,
I thank God for the magic of my dream,
the friendships that were made here, the joys that are mine,
a chance for love and sharing underneath the pine,
white clouds on high and blue sky up above.
Oh may I always live the life I love.
Now I know that God has made this world for me.

Linger M-m I want to linger
M-m A little longer
M-m A little longer with you, with you
M-m It's such a perfect night
M-m It doesn't seem quite right
M-m This is my last night with you, with you
M-m And come September
M-m We'll all remember
M-m Our camping days and friendships true, so true
M-m And as the years go by
M-m I'll think of you and sigh
M-m This is goodnight and not good-bye!

Little Canoe Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
with the moon shinin' all around.
He plied his paddle so...
you couldn't even hear a sound.
So they talked and they talked
'til the moon grew dim.
He said you better kiss me
or get out and swim.
So whatcha gonna do in a little canoe
with the moon shinin' all around?

Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
with the moon shinin' all around.
He plied his paddle so...
you couldn't hear a sound.
So they talked and they talked
'til the moon grew dim.
He said you better kiss me
or get out and swim.
So whatcha gonna do in a little canoe
With the moon shinin' all a...
the boats goin' all a...
the girls swimmin' all around?

Little Skunk Song Well I stuck my head in a little skunks hole
and the little skunk said, "Well Bless My Soul!"
"Take it out"-"Uh-uh!"
"Take it out"-"Uh-uh!"
"Remove it!"

Well I didn't take and the little skunk said,
"If you don't take it out you will wish you were dead!"
"Take it out" - "Uh-uh!"
"Take it out" - "Uh-uh!"
"Remove it!"

Well I didn't take it out and the little skunk said,
"PSSSST!" I removed it! (Confidentially, it stunk!)

The “New” Old Mac Donald Old MacDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a pine tree-
Well they chopped down the old pine tree (Timber)
And they hauled it away to the mill. (la la la la)

Old MacDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a home-
Home, home on the range
Where they chopped down the old pine tree (Timber)
And they hauled it away to the mill. (la la la la)

Old MacDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a dog...
Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
Well, he's home, home on the range
Where they chopped down the old pine tree (Timber)
And they hauled it away to the mill. (la la la la)

Old MacDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a sweetheart-
Let me call you sweetheart! I'm in love with you.
Let me whisper in your ear
Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
Well, he's home, home on the range
Where they chopped down the old pine tree (Timber)
And they hauled it away to the mill. (la la la la)

Old MacDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a skunk's hole...
Well I stuck my head in a little skunk's hole
and the little skunk said-
Let me call you sweetheart!

E---I---E---I---O

Nonsense Song I was looking out a window a second story window
when I caught my eyeball on a sill, a sill.
Someone get a hammer, there's a fly on baby's cradle.
Man's best friend is his mother!
You're a liar.
You've been drinking peroxide,
makes you hair go blonder
and your breath grow stronger!
My father bought a horse
Yeah Pop!
Whoa Betsy!

On My Honor Chorus:
On my honor I will try.
There's a duty to be done and I say "Aye."
There's a reason here for a reason above.
My honor is to try and my duty is love.

People don't need to know my name.
If I do any harm then I'm to blame.
If I help another then I help me,
and I've opened up my eyes to see.
(Chorus)

I've tucked away a song or two.
If your feeling low there's one for you.
If you need a friend then I will come,
and there's many more where I come from.
(Chorus)

Come with me where the fire burns bright.
We can even find meaning in a candle's light,
and we'll find more meaning in a campfire's glow
than we'll ever find in a year or so.
(Chorus)

We've made a promise to always keep.
We pray "Softly Falls" before we sleep.
We'll be GS together and when we're done
We'll still be trying and singing our song.
(Chorus)

On the Loose Have you ever watched the sunset
turn the sky completely red?
Have you slept beneath the moon and stars,
a pine grove for your bed?
Have you sat and talked with friends,
tho' a word is never said?
Then your just like me and you've been on the loose.

Chorus:
On the loose to climb a mountain.
On the loose where I am free.
On the loose to live my life
the way I think my life should be.
For I've only got a moment
and the whole world yet to see.
I'll be looking for tomorrow on the loose.

There's a trail that I'll be hiking
just to see where it might go.
Many places yet to visit,
many people yet to know.
For in following my dreams
I will live and I will grow,
in a world that's waiting out there on the loose.
(Chorus)

So in search of love and laughter
I am traveling cross this land.
Never sure of where I'm going,
for I haven't any plans.
And in time when you are ready,
come and join me take my hand
and together we'll share life out on the loose.
(Chorus)

Rise Up O Flame Rise up O'flame
by thy lights glowing
show to us beauty
visions and joy.

This is an eight part round, with each part beginning after "rise up". It can also be a two or four part round.

The Hills The hills and their glorious height
surround us by day and by night.
Sing praise to the hills.

This is a three part round

Thunderation Thunder, thunder, thunderation
We're the GS Congregation
When we sing with determination
We create a sensation!

This song is usually sung three times and gets progressively louder each time. It should be sung, though, and not shouted.

Where Does the Wind Come From? Where does the wind come from?
Does anybody know?
Where does the wind come from
before it starts to blow?
On Saturday night, (clap twice)
where does he hang his hat? (clap twice)
Does anybody know where the,
the wind is at?
Where does the wind come from?
Does anybody know-o-o-o
o-o-o-o-o?
