Every day we have center time.  During this time the children move around the room from center to center.
Here are some of the centers we rotate through (we use 3-4 each day plus the science table.)

Red Table Our red table is the large horse-shoe table.  The children get to work in small groups with the teacher at this table.  Favorite red table activities include dobbers, cutting and gluing and small group reading (using our AlphaTales).
Alphabet Magnets ABC magnets are placed next to the large file cabinet.  The children can spell their name, some basic color words, or copy words from around the classroom.  During our Chicka, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit I place a large palm tree poster on the file cabinet for the children to act out the story.
Sewing Center We have a large tub with spools, string, buttons and lacing cards.  The children can practice patterns with the buttons and spools and increase fine motor skills with all of the items in the center.
Construction Center We rotate between wooden blocks, legos and big box blocks for our construction center.  This center can be used with the transportation center, or with plastic animals and people for more interactive play.
Transportation Center We have cars, airplanes and trains all in this cener.  We use it on the large carpet and will sometimes use the transportation center with the construction center and the children can build cities and towns.
Playdough Center I make my own playdough in large batches so we only use one color each day.  The children use cookie cutters, rolling pins, and playdough factories to create.
Stencil Center Plastic stencils are stored in pail with scrap paper and colored pencils.  The bucket makes it easy to move the center to a table and the kids love making pictures with the stencils.  This is the only center we have with colored pencils so it makes it extra special.
Drawing Center Scrap paper, pencils and crayons (both fat and skinny) are in a center tub that can be easily moved to a table.  Kids can draw anything they like and can add it to our gallery or take it home with them.
Counting Bears We have a counting bear sheet that shows bears with number dots on them.  At the start of the year I color a key and the children look for bears to match (the orange bear has one dot, so you get one orange bear etc).  By the middle of the year, the children have blank sheets and color their own and fill their cups to match what they have colored.
File Folder Games I make new games to match the seasons and what we are learning about.  Our games cover skills in colors (including color words), shapes, alphabet, and counting.
Book Nook Children can select their own book and read it on the white bench Mrs. Sanders donated to our class.  It's a special treat to be able to sit on the white bench and the kids really enjoy this center.  I keep a selection of books available that we have read several times as a class as well as new favorites for the children to explore.
